  1. As early as the 8th Century, Arab traders and colonists exported
  2. slaves and spices from Kenya.  Britain obtained control in the
  3. 19th Century and on December 12, 1963 Kenya won independence. 
  4. Kenya has had a steadily growing industrialized and agricultural
  5. economy.  Under a modified private enterprise system and a
  6. relatively free political system, Kenya has prospered.  In 1968,
  7. ties with Somalia were restored after 4 years of skirmishes. 
  8. Tanzania in 1977 closed its border with Kenya over disputes about
  9. the collapse of the East African Community.  Kenya has strong
  10. ties with the West.                     @
